It's a great machine. It depends on how you want to use it. I did talk to Leo @ Sure Cuts Alot to see if it would use their program like the Silhouette SD. He didn't seem to think at that time it would, but it had not been released yet. Leo State that he feared they may be going the way that Provo Craft did since they want to promote their own software and files. He mentioned to me that the new Sizzix Eclips would be a good machine. It will have it's own stand along Sure Cuts Alot by the end of this month. I, too would welcome any suggestions since I'm lookeing to replace a Cricut Expression. Thanks

I had been told, thru e-mail, from Silhouette, that it's not compatible with SCAL and possibly MTC ...not sure about that ....so that's why I basically backed off from purchasing a Silhouette SD or the Cameo....will stick with Expression. Too bad that Silhouette wants to 'stick' with their software...they're lose out like Provo Craft is doing.

Silhouette Designer version already allows svg import. It is as simple as dragging an svg off the desktop. I thought normally what happened was that SCAL and MTC organised writing drivers to allow their programs to work to work on the Silhouette. The Silhouette is not a cartridge based cutter so I don't think the same problem is likely to arrise as with ProvoCraft. MTC already works with the Silhouette SD. Does anyone know how that was accomplished? It might be worth asking Andy whether or not it is likely to happen for the new Studio software.
I thought the Eclips was looking good and I had heard last year on the grapevine (actually Sizzix) that they were thinking in the future they may provide/allow other software to be used in conjunction with the Eclips. I see that they are going to use SCAL which sadly I think is not a very strong program (as yet).

Here is a You Tube video from a Cameo owner starting from Unpacking to actually doing a cut, and there are some good tips as well. For me its a No Brainer I can open SVG files using the designer software or use Inkscape to open any SVG file and export as a PNG file to open using the normal studio software. Judge for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/embed/Po3dRIuk9Nsand here is a link for the Silhouette Blog: http://blog.silhouetteamerica.com/ go back a couple of pages and see the fabric cutting... And I have recently learnt from another Silhouette forum that the New Blade attachment for the Cameo can be used on the SD silhouette model (as this was her example) and she reckoned that she cut 300gsm card with 1 CUT!!!!!! and because she is UK based I will be asking her where she got her New Blade attachment.....

That is very interesting Angela. I wonder if it will work in the version before the SD?

Hi Technomum
I have just left the other forum asking for info as too where she purchased the New Blade attachment, because the blade system for the grey silhouette is the same as the SD and I'm quite willing to purchase and test; not that it will prevent me from buying my Cameo.........
