A challenge for you. Create a project using only circles. You can combine and cut to create a different shape but only circles can be used. It is a challenge to encourage you to try something new such as tiled clones or path effects in Inkscape. If you are new to Inkscape you do not have to do anything complicated and can use basic functions to make some great designs.
I will leave the challenge open for two weeks, so you have until the 14th of May to show us your design. Use your imagination and try something new.
Don't forget you can use open circles, half circles, quarter circles or anything in between.
You do not have to cut your design and you can just show us a screenshot. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Couldn't resist this. I did, however, use Tiled Clones not Path Effect Editor . I will go and have a look at that next. I have put the file in Free SVG Files if anyone would like it. Attachment: Circles Challenge - Incire Design.jpg

Very creative and looks great. So many circles.
I will have to go back and edit my first post. I did mean tiled clones too. I was just trying to encourage members to experiment with all the great things available in Inkscape.

A very easy set of designs using circles and Scatter. I will share the file after I test cut. Attachment: circle1.JPG

Are the half circles (c) just a font or did you make them from the circle? I love the design. I downloaded it from the other post and it looks really good in Ink.

Hi Susan, my half circles were made by cutting a duplicate of my original two centered circles (Path>Excluded) in half by using the Bezier tool to draw a straight line through the centre and using Path>Cut Path. Next I Path>Combined the separate halves and using one of them, ensured it sat below my original hollow circle and with its right edge slightly right of centre (this helps with the overlap). I then grouped the two objects together and progressed to setting up Radial Tiled Clones. I know you are very experienced with Inkscape and I am sure you will know how to used Tiled Clones so I won't bore you here. I think Carolyn did a video on this a while back. I am sure that is where I learned to do it. The idea of using two objects grouped to form the pattern was a moment of inspiration (or more likely sheer laziness) LOL.

Thanks for the explanation about the half circles. Yes I do do tiled clones and yes I've combined two objects to make them. Carolyn has a vid on how but your design was particularly interesting and dainty. loved it.

Baby chick made entirely with circles. Of course you need to manipulate the circles into ovals and such moving the nodes around. Great exercise for playing with nodes. I really like drawing cartoon animals and being limited to only the circle tool was indeed a teachable moment for me. Thanks for the inspiration and the challenge Carolyn. I'm guessing this is not what you imagined you'd get when you created the challenge, but I couldn't make medallions any better than you or technomom have done. Attachment: babychick.png

Cute chick and a very creative using only circles.
You have much more imagination than me. I am glad someone thought of manipulating nodes to change the shape of a circle.
You have given me more great ideas. Before I could only think circle and couldn't work out how to make a card. Duh! I can change a circle into any shape by changing the nodes. Thank you for thinking outside the square (or circle in this case).

I haven't cut this design and whereas I know the inside bits may need to be deleted for some cutting machines, I left the design as you see it because I know a Silhouette/Cameo can cut these delicate kind of files.
As you can see I took the easy way to design with these circles.........I will add the SVG file once the challenge date has passed....
