Do you trace colouring pages and similar line art and have a problem with double lines? Here is a short video showing two ways to prevent or fix this problem. If you like creating rhinestone designs from traced images you may find this information useful.

Just when I think I may have conquered Inkscape to my satisfaction Carolyn, you come along and have me open-mouthed saying WOW WOW WOW on the Paint Can method of getting a single object from a trace.

LOL that is one of the first things I learnt in Inkscape and it was the first tutorial I posted on the BC forum. However, I learnt a lot more about the paint bucket after Kay started posting more ways it can be used.
Something else to try is place shapes on the canvas, click the paint bucket just outside one of the objects and the visible screen will be filled except for the objects you added. A fast way to create a stencil.

Thanks for the tutorial but what if you have traced for example a spiral flower? I've tried to get rid of the double lines but that doesn't work because it's an open path

A very short video showing what I do when I cannot delete a double line.

I couldn't use sound as hubby is watching tv and I was too lazy to walk out to my workroom. Plus it has been raining so if I went into a quiet room I would have a background sound of frogs and assorted bugs

These double lines were also an issue when tracing in Silhouette Studio. With your tutorial I can now use Inkscape for tracing simple black and white line drawings.

I tried the second way on a more complex figure. In your butterfly example you can fill one continuous area with the paintbuchet tool. That was not possible with my figure. I'm trying to group all filled areas to create the cut part. If this doesn't work I'll start looking at the paint-bucket tool tutorials you refer to in your tutorial.
